Idealized Containment Series (2019)

“Idealized Containment” focuses on my relationship with how I project self image. The series pushes physical medium into the composition of the piece by using a variety of mediums including hand painted silver gelatin, collaging, and encaustic. In this self-portrait series, I force myself to confront parts of my character I don’t understand and view of myself in a transformative perspective as opposed to destructive. The series examines not only how I view myself within the context of my own life, but also touches on self image in the context of relationships. Retouching self portraits through alternative techniques gave me the means to search for a how I define myself outside of appearance. Altering my digital appearance through physical means to communicates how manipulation can reveal a image just as much as it can alter it.
